Stitching to Dye

Hi! I have been inspired by several books, such as "Stitching to Dye" and "The Painted Quilt", and decided to get experimenting. So, first, I found a small quilt that was machine quilted, with a white-on-white background. I next dyed the piece - oranges, yellows and blues. That was interesting, but not too dynamic. Next, I used Tsukineko Inks and thickener to paint in a lot of the quilting motifs. Getting more interesting .... But, the sun was out, so I took the piece outside again and overdyed the entire piece blue! Finally, once dried and color-set, I took Shiva Paintstiks and rubbed yellow, gold and copper colors over some of the motifs.

What would I do different next time? I think that if I had inked the motifs first while the background was still white, the colors may have been more dynamic. Then I could have done a few dye layers on top of that.

What do you think???
